![]() I have one on my Sage VT2 6 weight and it’s awesome. If you’re chucking anything nasty, or having trouble on big rivers throwing indicators, this is the line for you. The Power Fly also throws giant terrestrials with laser-like loops. It’s heavier than the industry standard, which helps it load modern fast-action, super powerful rods. It roll casts the gnarliest of nymph rigs, and throws split shot out like they owe it money. It has a short, powerful front taper that turns over the biggest streamers with ease. RIO Power Fly – Though technically not classified as a trout line, the Power Fly is my favorite line for throwing giant streamers, and for lobbing fat indicator rigs on big rivers. If you want the best, get a RIO Perception. This line was the winner of the 2014 Best New Fly Line award at the International Fly Tackle Dealer show, and in my opinion is the best line currently on the market. Other features include a tri-color SureFire line coloring which enables deadly accuracy, and a line ID printed right on the front of the line for quick and easy line identification. I have this line on my Sage ONE 5 weight, and I absolutely love it. What does this mean for you? Better detection of subtle takes, better hooksets, better feel and timing during your cast, and sharp, precise mends. ConnectCore technology gives the line a 6% stretch core. That’s a lot of the “rubber band” feeling that you get when you hook a fish at a long distance away from you, or the spongy feeling that sometimes occurs when you’re casting long distances. ![]() The big benefit with the Perception is in RIO’s ConnectCore technology – a conventional fly line core stretches up to 25%, meaning that if you pulled your line out 100 feet, you could stretch it 25 more feet until it was fully stretched out. The In Touch RIO Grand fly line earns Dry Fly status.RIO Perception – New for 2014, this is a fly line that’s totally reworked with all of the new bells and whistles. The line retails for about $89.īDF uses a three tiered gear rating system for gear reviews. ![]() The coating is very slick, and the weight of the line felt perfect for a fast action rod. This fly line is very impressive, and I would recommend it. I was able to cast this line into tight spots landed quite a few trout on the dry fly. On one occasion, the trout started looking up, and I spent an afternoon fishing a size 14 parachute adams using this fly line. I cast streamers and heavy flies with ease during the time on the water. Hook sets also seemed to be better.while impossible to truly quantify, it seemed as though I lost fewer fish on the hook set, which would be due to the low/no stretch core.Ĭolor different between the body and running line. Time spent with this line verified these claims as accurate, as I noticed that the line seemed more "connected" to the rod and the reel. Rio says that this line contains an ultra-low stretch core for easier line lift, more precise mends, and better cast timing. The In Touch RIO Grand line is one full line size heavier than the industry standard, which I really appreciated in my fast action rod. I was able to get more distance, and more accuracy by noting the different sections of the line as they flew through the guides. While casting the line at distance on the Gunnison, I found it extremely helpful to note the different colors when loading the rod. This intrigued me, since I am a "feel" caster, and not very technical. This fly line uses different colors to indicate the different parts of the line, including the front taper, the body, and the running line. There are two loop connectors on each end, and the colors are bright and visible. The line has several features that I liked immediately. I was looking for a line to use for this year's trip, and discovered the RIO In Touch RIO Grand WF6. When I fish a fast action rod, I like to use a fly line that is a bit heavier so that I can load the rod to take advantage of it's capabilities. This requires that I get my fast action Sage VPX 6 weight out of the bag when fishing big water in pursuit of the large trout and salmon. The primary objective of the annual Gunnison trip is to catch big fish.
